Students highlighted:

  • Why the Earth has seasons.
  • What causes day and night.
  • Why the North and South Poles have extra long days in summer and extra long nights in winter.

The Earth's Surface & Rotations

This week the class started their new inquiry unit on The Earth's Surface and Rotations.

Students explored all the things they know about the topic then came up with some questions they would like to find our the answer to.

These included:

Why does the earth spin?

How earthquakes and tsunamis happen?

What is inside the earth?

Over the remainder of the term students will investigate these, and many other, questions and find answers to them.

This week our focus will be on:
  • How the earth's rotation causes night and day.
  • What the earth is made of.

Post questions and discoveries on our Wall Wisher!!

If anyone has any more ideas on what they would like to know about the Earth or if you discover something new please post it on our Wall Wisher Below.

Remember to change the name of the person posting a note from anonymous to your first name so we know who is posting.

Piranha teeth, toucan beaks and soccer ball heads!

Last week the students concluded their inquiry unit on the Olympic Games by designing mascots and torches for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Students researched information on Brazil by working together in a JIGSAW activity. Each student became an expert on one aspect of Brazil such as The Amazon or Brazil's Favourite Sports. Experts shared their knowledge with the class so everyone knew heaps about Brazil.

After discussing what things we could include in our designs students went to work designing their mascots. Piranha teeth, toucan beaks, soccer ball heads, symbols to represent the poor people in brazil, the colours of carnaval and much more featured in the designs.

Welcome to 3/4 F from KPS blog!

Dear 3/4 F families,

My name is Jack Lawicki and I am studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary) at Monash University.  Throughout 2012, as a part of my final year teaching placement, I have been observing and teaching lessons in 3/4 F. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the students and the experience has been highly valuable for my development as a teacher.

I write to inform you that from the 20th of August until the 7th of September I will be on my final block of teaching placements in 3/4 F. Under the guidance of their classroom teachers I will be in full control of teaching in 3/4 F during this period.

To make the most out of the three weeks I have created a blog to celebrate the achievements of the students. The blog will be regularly updated with students work and information about what is happening in our class. The blog will not feature any photos which could be used to identify people and no surnames will appear on the blog.

Students and parents are encouraged to make constructive contributions to the blog via the comments feature. All comments will be moderated before they appear on the blog. Remember to protect yours and others privacy when posting comments online by not revealing personal information.  We will review the Acceptable Use Policy with the students before the blog becomes active to remind students of their responsibilities when using digital communication technologies.

I feel that the blog will complement the Digital Excellence and SuperClubsPlus programs in developing the digital skills of the 3/4 F students.

I look forward to collaborating with the 3/4 F students and families.

Yours Sincerely

Jack Lawicki
